I fondly remember the school holidays when Lee and I spent lots of time at Nanna and granddads corner shop in the countryside. The smell of homemade freshly cooked meals especially the rice pudding with the skin on mmmm...this definitely started my love for rice pudding. Nanna was a great cook/baker and enjoyed cooking for family, friends and for sale in their shop. Nanna had a sweet tooth herself...she could be full. But all this really meant was she was leaving room for a pudding...this was definitely her favourite part of a meal. Whilst we stayed at Nannas in the holidays, we always tripped off for walks in the countryside or Skipton and around. Often with Tinker her dog. I loved the little creaks in the house and how warm and welcoming she made it. With the real fire too! Perfect. Nanna was a keen gardener too, along with my grandad Stan. Their garden here, had taken years of time, care and attention...it was their pride and joy...this is where I learned what a rockery was. Nanna always helped my mum with her gardening and passed on her gardening knowledge, which my mum shows through her own garden she has developed over the years. A little point on this one though...I remember my mum saying that Nanna kept buying random things and appearing with them for her garden...not plants...just random ornaments kinda things. Trust me my mum didn’t always want these but Nanna could be quite insistent. I think as she didn’t have her own big garden like she used to at the shop...my mums garden became a little reminder of her old one she much cherished. Love Emma (granddaughter)
